Trust yourself. Trust others. You are not alone.
Being a storyteller means sharing the personal challenges and joys life presents to me daily. What I learned in my journey is that the things I thought only I felt, others also felt. I was not alone. You are not alone.
See what is and make a choice for better
I’ve always said my superpower rests in taking the complicated and making it understandable, finding the sliver of extraordinary and elevating it above the noisy clutter. I think every good storyteller needs that perception, that discernment to “grasp what is obscure” and “see what is not evident.”
Live like Dan
Dan encouraged others to take a risk, to take the next step that would elevate their life journey. Whether it was work on an advanced degree or apply for a job, Dan put others on the path they hadn’t seen themselves taking, then supported them through the process. Dan saw the superfantastic part in each of us, and reminded us of it when we had forgotten it.
Just load the wagon
Don’t worry that the mule is blind; just load the wagon. Keep doing what you’re supposed to do; keep handling what needs to be handled; keep going; keep believing; keep working — even when you can’t recognize where it’s all going to lead.
Someone will notice
It takes a gracious man who can take the floor night after night after night, knowing he’s as good as the other guy but never getting the applause the other guy gets.
Make something good with what you were given
I believe God gave us all the ingredients to have the things we want, to have peace on earth — the cure to disease, the solution to hunger, the remedy for sadness — right here under our noses. He filled our cabinets. We just have to come up with the recipe.
You just never know
It was unkind. It was uncaring. It was rude. It was unnecessary, like most unkind, uncaring, and rude things people say and do. I judged him without knowing him.
This is your wake-up call
In the scramble of living each day, I had given up dreams; and even sadder, I hadn’t even realized it — not until that moment. I finished the interview and walked to my car as the question played again and again in my mind: “What’s my dream?”
There is no unimportant person
Isn’t it fascinating that something as apparently worthless as pulverized grape goop could yield a product responsible for the meringue topping on your coconut pie. Everything has worth. Everything has purpose. Everything has value; be it grape goop or a person.
