In the middle of a mess

spilled coffee cup on concrete path

I just spilled a can of pop all over my desk while reaching for the Change-Your-Life Quote Book. What I learned didn’t come from the book, though; it came from the mess I made.

Under my computer, a computer I’ve had for well over a year, there’s a little stand which tilts the screen up.

I didn’t know that.

And I wouldn’t have known it had I never spilled my pop. Some things can only be learned through adversity, or as the Change-Your-Life Quote Book says,

“Flowers grow out of dark moments.”

Some days, there’s a forest of flowers in my back yard. Yours, too?

We will have dark days. Expect them and they won’t catch you off guard so much.

Expect that one day, the car won’t start. Expect that one day, the kids will miss the bus. Expect that one day, what went out of the checking account was more than what you had in.

Expect it. Acknowledge if it happens and move on. If it doesn’t, smile knowing you’ve been given a treat.

Granted, there are days when it seems every piece of river trash gets hung up on your branch, days when you do what’s right and still get called wrong.

That’s life. That’s everyone’s life.

Bet you in the middle of that mess, there’s a blessing waiting for you to find — look for it. Find the hidden treasure under your soggy computer.
