It will be all right

I’ve never been asked to address a graduating class, but if I were, my message would be simple: “It will be all right.”

No matter what their pain, no matter what their disappointment, it will be all right.

The world is filled with so much despair, people who just can’t see the end of their pain. If only they knew that time will heal that pain.

It will be all right.

Wil was struggling with unhappiness in his young life. As I held him, I tried to reassure him that every day he would feel better and better and, we would work through his pain together.

With tearful eyes, he replied,

“But it will never be okay, Mommy.”

He just couldn’t get there; he couldn’t see an end to the pain because he couldn’t see a solution to the problem causing the pain. He’s no different than of any of us. When a solution to our problem seems unattainable, we easily give in to despair and believe our current pain will be our lifelong pain.

But it won’t. It will be all right.

We have to trust that time will present a solution, even when we haven’t a clue what that solution may be.

It’s hard to believe that tomorrow will be better when yesterday’s tomorrow wasn’t. When pain lasts so long, it’s hard to believe that any tomorrow will be better. But it will.

Tomorrow will be better.

Tomorrow may be tomorrow, or it may be three days from now, or four weeks, or two years, but tomorrow will be better.

Don’t rob yourself of tomorrow’s joys by dwelling on today’s pain. Live the pain and move on to tomorrow; move on to a lifetime of tomorrows. It will be all right.
